Securing and protection during transport

During transport we use professional securing and protection so that the upright piano arrives safely and undamaged at its new location. Our company has general liability insurance, which covers damage that may occur during transport.

Stairs and floors

We move upright pianos to upper floors and on stairs. Our prices include a per-floor surcharge; for an exact quote we need the number of floors and whether the building has a lift.

Why is an upright piano not just “a big cabinet”?

Depending on the instrument, an upright piano typically weighs 150 to 300 kilograms, and its weight is not evenly distributed: the iron frame and the strings are at the back of the instrument. Besides damage to the casing, the action can also be damaged during moving, so moving an upright piano takes experience and the right equipment.

What to watch out for before moving an upright piano

• Measure the width of the staircase, the doors and the turns, and send photos if you can.
• Tell us how many floors there are and whether there is a lift (and its inner dimensions if so).
• Take everything off the top of the instrument; nothing may be left on it.
• Decide in advance where the instrument will stand in its new place: preferably not by an outside wall, away from radiators and direct sunlight.

Tuning after the move

Moving and the change in temperature and humidity can put the upright piano out of tune. Experts generally recommend waiting a few weeks before tuning so the instrument can adapt to its new place. Tuning must be done by a separate piano tuner; we do not do it.
